MINISTRO DE EDUCACIÓN,
We are using this medium to express our deep disapproval concerning the wave of repression against the Honduran teachers. The Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), which represents 175 000 workers in the Quebec’s public sector, condemns the lack of political will to find an immediate solution to the just demands of the teachers.
We cannot forget that recently your country experienced a political situation that brought the theme of violations of human and social rights to international attention. Today, the repression exercised by your government cannot be allowed when there is talk of reestablishing the peace and stability of the country.
We demand the prompt liberation of the teachers, cessation of the harassment against them, and the immediate fulfillment of their demands, which only ask for the universal right to education and respect for the already established labor norms.
We are taking advantage of this opportunity to show our support and solidarity for the Honduran teachers’ movement, and we defend their fight for public education and for better working conditions. We have alerted our member organizations and will continue to closely monitor the situation in Honduras. Likewise, we are communicating with our own governments in each country to let them know about this new wave of repression against the Honduran teachers.
